6 Armed Robbers Committed To High Court

Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Freetown Magistrate Court No.2 yesterday committed six alleged armed robbers to the High Court for trial.
The alleged armed robbers Mohamed Tarawallie, Musa Kabba, Alhaji Kargbo and others were on the 21st July 2014 at the territorial waters of Freetown arrested and charged to court on nine counts of Conspiracy contrary to law, Robbery with Aggravation contrary to Section 23(1a) of the Larceny Act 1916, wounding contrary to Section 20 of the offences against the person Act 1816, assault and other related charges.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused were on the said date at the territorial water of Freetown on board a fishing vessel marked LIAN RUN 23 at sea being armed with gun and knife to rob Mohamed Kamara of his travelling bag containing assorted items valued three Million, three hundred and sixty thousand Leones, robbed Stick Bin, a Chinese national of physical cash of one thousand United States dollars, Toshiba computer, two mobile phones and one travelling bag containing assorted items which total valued sum up to thirty two Million one hundred thousand Leones, other workers in the vessel were also robbed of various items valued Million Leones of which total valued of items robbed from the vessel worth over Million of Leones were taken away.
In his committal statement, Magistrate Kamanda said that there is sufficient evidence against the accused persons and considering the nature of the offences they should be committed to the High Court for trial.
Lawyer H. Sherry for the accused made an application for bail based on section 102 of the Criminal Procedure Act of sub section 1. Bail was refused and the accused were remanded at the Pademba Road Prison awaiting trial.
