The Executive Director for Defense for Children International – Sierra Leone, Mr. Abdul Manaff Kemokai has ended monitoring visits to DCI-Sierra Leone’s ‘Education Project’ sites in Bombali District. Over 2500 students from 10 communities in Bombali and Kenema Districts had been supported to improve their performance in schools and public examinations. Mr. Kemokai said the project which is supported by Banyan Tree Foundation is primarily focused on improving the academic outcomes of students.

In acknowledging the challenges, the Executive Director added that the project has also trained teachers on Modern Teaching Methodologies and also provided them with a Teaching Manual on how to upgrade students with poor preparation at primary schools.

A teacher from Bombali District observed, “I am happy for this project because it has really changed my approach to public exams. I progressed to Senior Secondary School last year because of this programme”.

Mr. Kemokai concluded by calling on the students to make good use of the study facilities which includes electricity, furniture and other learning materials as they are fundamental to the sustainability of the project in the district.
