Africell, one of the leading mobile companies in the country on Monday 1st May 2017 commissioned communication pole in Fintonia the Chiefdom Headquarter Town of Tambakha in the Bombali District.
The ceremony which took place in Fintonia Court Barri attracted a cross section of government functionaries from Freetown, APC party stalwarts including Parliamentarians and Paramount Chiefs within Bombali District and Chiefdom elders.
In his keynote address, the Chairman of National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM), Momoh Konte said the commissioning of the Africell communication pole in that neglected part of the country which shares boundary with the Republic of Guinea is a dream come true.
He noted that before now the prevailing situation at the time unavoidably forced the inhabitants of Tambakha to use the Guinea network to communicate to their relatives and friends inside and outside the country using the Guinea currency as a medium of exchange.
However, with the installation of the pole in Fintonia he was of the view that the problem of the people in Tambakha in terms of communication would now be a thing of the past.
Mr. Konte informed the mammoth gathering in the court barri that it was not an easy task to install the communication pole in Fintonia that now serves the entire chiefdom and its environs.
He therefore encouraged all subscribers in the chiefdom to use all the facilities provided by Africell in their network service to the best of their advantage, but he hastened to advise the chiefdom people as beneficiaries to help in protecting the facilities of the company.
He informed that feasibility studies were carried out severally and each time they at NATCOM were informed that it was not possible to install a pole in Tambakha considering the terrain and the cost of sustainability were the main disadvantages.
He said with continuous engagement with His Excellency the President Africell was made to feel and understand the plight of the people of Tambakha that it was important that they join the rest of the civilized world in globalization.
Mr. Konte presented five hundred mobile phones to the people of Tambakha which was donated by Africell and in addition free call to all subscribers for a period of one month effective 1 May 2017 was assured.
He assured that other remote parts in the South and East of the country would soon enjoy similar facilities.
Chairman of the occasion, Ambassador Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh reiterated His Excellency’s commitment in seeing that communication is taken to every part of the country and that Tambakha was one of such areas.
He said that in spite of the difficult terrain coupled with the bad condition of the road network the touristic potential of the chiefdom cannot be overemphasized hence the installation of the most needed communication pole in the chiefdom was very timely.
But that notwithstanding, Ambassador Yansaneh assured the people of Tambakha that in the not too distant future the road connecting Kamakwei /Tambakha to Madina Wula on to the Guinea border would be taken care of. He expressed his personal appreciation to Africell as one of the indigenes of Tambakha Chiefdom for the installation and commissioning of the much needed pole, adding that his people have been connected to the outside world.
