The Managing Director at GTB (Guaranty Trust Bank Sierra Leone), Alhaji Ayoku Liadi has come to the end of a very successful tenure and he is leaving the bank at the end of the year. Mr. Liadi came to Sierra Leone at a time when GTB’s credibility was at a very low ebb. “He was sent here to clear up the mess left behind by some of his predecessors”, according to a senior member of the bank’s Board of Directors.
At the time Mr. Liadi took up the challenging job of Managing Director in 2011, GTB had only eight branches in Sierra Leone. Today, the bank’s visibility is unmatched by any of its rivals. GTB has twelve visible branches in Sierra Leone including the ones at Pepel, Bumbuna and Wellington.
For the past three years, GTB has won the enviable accolade of fastest growing and most profitable bank in Sierra Leone with a customer base of well over one hundred thousand. GTB has successfully doubled its balance shift in the past three years.
Mr. Liadi has attributed the success of GTB in the past three years to the provision of good and reliable service to their customers and the collaborative efforts of an exciting and very vibrant workforce.
The outgoing Managing Director is sadly leaving GTB to join UBA (United Bank of Africa) as Group General Manager in Nigeria. He sees his new appointment as very challenging.
Mr. Liadi (now Alhaji Ayoku Liadi) has steadied a very stormy water at GTB. He will be remembered as the crisis manager who fought very hard to restore the credibility of a sinking bank in Sierra Leone. GTB has become as attractive as a golden fish.
Some staff members of the bank say they will sorely miss their no – nonsense Managing Director who took over the bank at a very difficult and challenging moment.
In an interview last night, Mr. Liadi attributed his success to the Grace of God.
