One of the flagbearer contenders of the opposition SLPP, Alhaji Dr. Alie Kabba has called on party members to eschew the path of destruction and embrace peace for the sake of Mama Salone. Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Global Times last night, Dr. Kabba who resides in the United States lamented that the ruling APC was having a field day due largely to disunity within the ranks of the main opposition and called on party members to do Sierra Leone a favour by bridging the divide. He said as the oldest and the most sober political party in the country, the people of Sierra Leone always look up to the SLPP to redeem them from the yoke of tribalism, corruption and other forms of maladministration perpetrated by the APC. Dr. Kabba said for over two decades Sierra Leoneans suffered due to naked corruption during the One Party rule of the APC, noting that similar level of monumental corruption has again reared its ugly head under the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma. He referenced the audit report on the management of the Ebola funds and the purchase of the controversial one hundred buses as evidence of corruption for which the ruling APC must be made to account. “But the truth is that the SLPP can only challenge the APC with a united force. Unity therefore is paramount if we must take over governance in 2017/18”. Dr. Kabba said the sons and daughters of the grand old party must bear in mind that the first step to State House begins with unity. “We must therefore unite or we forget about State House”, he said.
