APC Flag Bearer Aspirant & Their Chances

APC Flag Bearer Aspirant & Their Chances

By Sorie Fofana.

We continue with our series on APC flag bearer aspirants and their chances of leading the party and the country after the March 7, 2018 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council elections.

In Part 1 and 2, we had assessed the chances of the veteran APC Politician, Ambassador Victor Bockarie Foh and the charismatic Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph F. Kamara.

In Part 3 today, we assess the chances of Dr. Kaifala Marah to lead the APC and the country after crucial elections in March next year.

As earlier stated, we will limit our assessment of the APC flag bearer aspirants to the period that, the APC has been in power since 2007 to date.

Dr. Kaifala Marah

Before 2010, many people knew Dr. Kaifala Marah as one of the few Sierra Leoneans working for the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, United Kingdom.

In 2010, Dr. Kaifala Marah was recruited from the Commonwealth Secretariat in London to become the first-ever Chief of Staff at State House. That office was the creation of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma after he decided to scrap the post of Minister of Presidential Affairs.

As Chief of Staff, Dr. Kaifala Marah avoided the political limelight. He was more or less the technocrat that he had always been.

Immediately after the 2012 elections, Dr. Kaifala Marah was appointed as third-in-command in the government hierarchy as Minister of Finance and Economic Development.

As Minister of Finance, he presided over the fastest growing economy until the Ebola Virus Disease broke out in May 2014.

Throughout the Ebola period, Dr. Kaifala Marah ensured that, salaries were paid and no Civil Servant and/or Public Servant were made redundant. The outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease led to the near collapse of the country’s economy. But, with prudent financial management, the country was able to navigate itself out of that stormy water.

After the end of Ebola, Dr. Kaifala Marah was removed from the Finance Ministry and appointed Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone.

He was in charge of the country’s monetary policies until he decided to resign from the post of Bank Governor to run for the position of flag bearer in the APC.

Chances To Lead The APC

Dr. Kaifala Marah has contributed greatly to the APC Party since he became a registered member of the party in 2011.

He provided a piece of land in Kabala for the construction of the APC district office. He did not only stop there, he provided funds for the construction of the APC District Office in Kabala. Last week, he invited the Honorable Vice President, Ambassador Victor Foh to officially open the APC District Office in Taiama, Kori Chiefdom in the Moyamba district. That office was built by him and him alone.

Dr. Kaifala Marah hails from the Koinadugu district. But he grew up in Kono district and became the National President of KONSU (Kono Students’ Union). He sees himself as a Konoman even though he is a Koranko by tribe.

If he is elected/selected to lead the APC Party, Dr. Kaifala Marah will be a strong contender for the post of President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

He is a highly intelligent, charismatic and highly respected in the international community for his prudent management of Sierra Leone’s economy during the Ebola crisis. We wish him good luck.

In Part 4 tomorrow, we shall be assessing the chances of Ambassador Alimamy Petito Koroma to lead the APC and his chances of becoming President of the Republic of Sierra Leone in March 2018.
