A high powered delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Samuel Omar Williams was in Nairobi, Kenya on a Ten Day official visit to the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The delegation comprised of the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff in charge of Operations and Planing, Brigadier General Mamadi Keita, the Director of Peace Keeping Operations (DPKO), the Deputy Secretary Procurement in the Ministry of Defence.
According to sources, the team led by the Chief of Defense Staff, Major General Samuel Omar Williams was able to visit the National Defence College and the Defense Staff College in Kenya through their Laison Officer Colonel Peter Lavahun.
The team was also led on a conducted tour to some of the Military facilities including the Kenyan Ordinance Factories were weapons were manufactured.
Our sources further explain that the visit gave an opportunity to the two forces to strengthen and coordinate their Military relationship as they are fighting a common enemy, the Al-Shabab (Al Qaeda affiliated).
The sources maintained that the delegation was taken to Kenya
Naval Base and their Training School in Mombasa and also flew back to Nairobi where they held consultative talks with the Kenyan Chief of Defence Forces, General Julius Karangi flew out to Somalia on Saturday to visit the Sierra Leone Battalion which was deeply engaged in a Peace Enforcement Mission in the War torn Country.
While in Mogadishu, Major General Samuel Omar Williams and his delegation had productive discussions with the AMISOM Force Commander, a Burundian Lieutenant General Nitigurirwa Silas and later with the Special Representative of the African Union Commission SRCC Ambassador Anadif.
Major General S.O Williams also paid a courtesy call on the President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hassan before proceeding to Kismayo to visit the LEOBATT Troops under the Sector Commander Brigadier General Tamba Allieu.
