The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Joseph F. Kamara has led a high power delegation of lawyers in the Law Officers Department of the Justice Ministry to the headquarters of the Sierra Leone Police Force (SLP) on George Street in Freetown where they held fruitful discussions with the Executive Management Board of the SLP.
The meeting between the Police and officials of the Justice Ministry was geared towards effective partnership between the Police and the Law Officers Department.
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice thanked the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Francis Munu and his senior management team for the hospitality accorded him and his team.
He said the maintenance of law and order is germane to economic and social development and crucial for the protection of fundamental human rights. It is incumbent on the Police to ensure that the lives and properties of the people of Sierra Leone are protected at all times.
Mr. Kamara said Police officers should know that they owe an obligation to the people of Sierra Leone to ensure maximum internal security and public safety.
He said since the police are playing a crucial role in the maintenance of law and order in the country there is a need for more training in general policing, evidence and statement taking, report writing, arrest and search.
Responding, the Police chief Mr. Francis Munu thanked the AG and Minister of Justice for the visit which he described as timely and very important.
The I.G. spoke about the need for capacity building of the SLP both nationally and internationally.
