The former Head of State, Rtd. Brig Julius Maada Bio started his social mobilisation tour on Monday 19th October 2015.
Rtd. Brig. Bio started his tour with a visit to Kambia District. Respecting traditional authorities, Rtd. Brig. Bio made a courtesy call to Paramount Chief Bai Bubu Angbak where he declared that he was in Kambia to add his voice to the growing call for all Sierra Leoneans not to relent in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease. Rtd. Brig. Bio thanked the Paramount Chief and elders for assisting the government and other partners in the fight against Ebola. He also expressed condolences for the death of many people in the district and country as a whole. In responding, the Paramount Chief thanked Rtd. Brig. Bio for his timely visit to the district and for his contributions towards national efforts in eradicating Ebola.
Rtd. Brig. Bio later visited the Kambia District Ebola Centre where he was briefed by Dr. Alfred Kamara on the district response to Ebola. Dr. Alfred Kamara told Rtd. Brig. Bio and entourage that the district has taken ownership of the fight against Ebola and revealed that the MOU the district signed with neighbouring Guinea has also led to community ownership of the fight. Dr. Alfred Kamara also gave an up-to-date statistics of the Ebola cases, deaths and survivors in the district.After receiving the update from Dr. Alfred Kamara, the Rtd. Brig. Bio thanked him and his team for their sacrifices, professionalism and national service to ending the Ebola Virus Disease.
Later, at the SLPP party office in Kambia, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio addressed a large crowd where he told his audience that he was in Kambia to contribute towards the social mobilisation efforts by the government. He told the crowd that he was just adding his voice to the messages they have received from government and other agencies that we are still not out of the woods yet so there should be no complacency. Rtd. Brig. Bio said that the country has come a long way in the fight against Ebola and thanked all those who contributed in various sensitization efforts in communities and chiefdoms. He also expressed condolences to the families who lost loved ones. There were also many speakers who praised Rtd. Brig. Bio for his visit and interventions in the fight against Ebola recollecting his donation of rice and other food items to the district at the peak of the Ebola virus.
The next stop of the tour was Port Loko district. In Port Loko, Rtd. Brig. Bio also met with officials of the District Ebola Response Team. Officials of the District Ebola Response Team gave Rtd. Brig. Bio a report of the Ebola situation in the district and what they have been able to do in tackling the disease. In response, Rtd. Brig. Bio thanked officials and the health workers for their continued efforts to defeat the virus.
In Port Loko, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio also held a meeting at the SLPP district office where he declared that the theme for his social mobilsation tour is “Paopa Ebola for don”. Addressing a huge crowd, Rtd. Brig. Bio thanked the people of Port Loko for uniting against our common enemy which is Ebola. Like in Kambia, Rtd. Brig. Bio also told stakeholders at the meeting that everyone should work towards maintaining the Zero cases. Other speakers at the meeting included Dr. Kadie Sesay and Dr. Abass Bundu.
From Port Loko, the Rtd. Brig. Bio and entourage left for Makeni where they were welcomed into the district by hundreds of jubilant youths. Rtd. Brig. Bio spent the night in Makeni and will continue his tour on Tuesday, 20th October, 2015.
Also, contrary to social media reports that Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio has not been granted a clearance for his tour, the Inspector General of Police has issued a directive dated 19/10/15 to all Regional Commanders informing them that Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio will be embarking on a nationwide ebola sensitization tour and as sure the usual courtesies and security coverage must be accorded to Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio and team.

BIO TOURS BOMBALI AND KOINADUGU ON EBOLA SOCIAL MOBILISATION
The former head of state, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio has on Tuesday, 20th October continued his social mobilisation in the Northern Region by visiting Bombali and Koinadugu districts.
After receiving a rousing welcome by hundreds of people in Bombali, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio visited officials of the Bombali District Ebola Response Team. The Bombali District Ebola Response Coordinator, Dr Emmanuel Conteh briefed Rtd. Brig. Bio about the Ebola situation in the district. Dr Conteh disclosed that the alarming death rate in the district was due to fear factor. He also said that although the district was Ebola free, the emerging trend was worrying but stressed that they are organising community sensitization aimed at encouraging sick people to visit the hospital.
In response, Rtd. Brig. Julius Bio thanked Dr Conteh and his team and encouraged them to do all they can to ensure that the district maintain zero Ebola cases. He told the team that he was in the country to add his voice to the government social mobilisation efforts.
In Bombali, Rtd. Brig. Bio also made a courtesy call to Paramount Chief Bai Shebora Kasanga where he thanked him and other traditional leaders for their efforts in curbing the EVD. Chief Kasanga welcomed Rtd. Brig. Bio’s social mobilisation and said the country should unite against the Scourge
From Bombali, Rtd. Brig. Bio travelled to Kabala which is the largest town in Koinadugu District where he was received by large crowd of people singing and praising him for his social mobilisation drive.
Addressing a meeting in Kabala including various stakeholders and community leaders, Rtd. Brig. Bio reiterated his call for all Sierra Leoneans to fight the EVD to ensure it is finally eradicated. He noted that the virus has claimed the lives of thousands of Sierra Leoneans and as such we must all fight it collectively. He disclosed to the audience that the theme of his tour was “Paopa Ebola for don” and called on all not only to spread the message but to apply every effort to end Ebola. Various speakers and community leaders made speeches on the Ebola situation, the efforts of the district and many praised Rtd. Brig. Bio for his initiative which has put the interest of the country and people above everything.
The Rtd. Brig. Bio and entourage also travelled to other parts of Koinadugu districts.
