As the restricted viewing of the 709.48 carats of uncut gem diamond found in Kono district last month continues at the Bank of Sierra Leone, a lot of questions remain unanswered.
So far, only three foreign buyers have viewed the gem diamond at the Bank of Sierra Leone. They are; Alie Mackie from Belgium, representatives of the fugitive Lebanese businessman Johnny Bongo and representatives of Pluto Mining.
The government reserved price for the gem diamond has been put at US$18m (Eighteen Million United States dollars). Interest in buying the gem diamond is waning, according to NMA (National Minerals Agency) officials in Freetown.
It is a fact that, the diamond was found in the Tankoro Chiefdom, Kono district. But does that in any way make Paramount Chief Paul Saquee V of Tankoro Chiefdom a party to the diamond?
Did Chief Saquee inform President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma that, the diamond was found in an unlicensed mining area?
Did Chief Saquee tell President Koroma that he is neither the license holder nor the supporter of Pastor Emmanuel Momoh?
Did Chief Saquee inform President Koroma that, the gem diamond was handed over to him by Jihad Basma at State House to be hand-delivered to him (the President)?
Why did Chief Saquee misinform the President at State House that Mr. Jihad Basma wanted to seize the diamond?
Did Chief Saquee tell President Koroma that he first set eyes on the diamond in Koidu City after Jihad Basma had showed it to him at his (Jihad’s) house in Koidu City?
Did Chief Saquee tell President Koroma that he was driven in Jihad Basma’s vehicle to Freetown to formally present the gem diamond to him (President Koroma)?
Why did Chief Saquee not inform President Koroma that, the diamond slept with Jihad Basma in Koidu City for thirty six hours before it was brought down to Freetown?
Did Pastor Emmanuel Momoh not tell Chief Saquee in Koidu City that he wanted Mr. Jihad Basma to buy the diamond?
Why did Pastor Momoh not hand over the diamond to Chief Saquee in Koidu City if he really trusted him?
Why did Chief Saquee say that, the diamond was destined by God to be sold to Mr. Jihad Basma and that, he, as a true Christian, would not go against the will of God?
Why did Chief Saquee convince Pastor Momoh and his seventeen workers to leave the hotel accommodation that Jihad Basma had provided for them in Freetown when they arrived with the diamond?
Is Chief Saquee not aware that, before they arrived at State House, Jihad Basma had already spent about Le30,00,000 (Thirty Million Leones) on Pastor Momoh and his seventeen workers for their feeding and accomodation?
Why did Chief Saquee hurriedly inform Madam Diana Konomanyi and Max Bradwein that, a big diamond had been found in his Chiefdom in Kono district?
Who promised to give Chief Saquee US$2m (Two million United States dollars) if he convinced President Koroma to influence the sale of the diamond to his diamond export company?
Why did the Mines Minister not truthfully and honestly inform the President that the diamond was found in an unlicenced mining plot?
Is the President aware of an attempt made by certain people to backdate the mining license in order to make it current?
All these questions have to be answered before the uncut gem diamond is sold to the highest bidder on 6th April, 2017.
