The Minister of Energy, Oluniyi Robin Coker has been invited to Abidjan, Ivory Coast to sign an agreement for the Emergency Energy Support Programme for Sierra Leone on 16th and 17th December, 2013.
It will be recalled that, Sierra Leone had requested from the ECOWAS Commission a financial assistance to implement an emergency programme for improving power supply to the Greater Freetown Area.
The ECOWAS Commission has been instructed by the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State to consider the requests from The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Mali for financial assistance to implement emergency programme for improving electricity supply in the various countries.
According to a letter from the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja dated 6th December, 2013.” The budgetary estimates for this support have been approved in the ECOWAS Commission’s budget for 2014”.
A senior official in the Ministry of Energy last night informed the Global Times that the financial support announced by the ECOWAS Commission towards the energy sector in Sierra Leone was timely.
