Energy Minister Accounts 100 Days In Office

Energy Minister, Henry Macauley yesterday briefed journalists on key developments in his ministry since he took over as minister.
Speaking at a press conference to mark his one hundred days in office, Mr. Macauley commended his team for taking giant strides to make energy available and affordable to all as encapsulated in the visions of H E President Koroma.
He recalled that one of the first things he did as Minister was to form the Energy Taskforce with the views to coordinating and enveloping in to one pool the broad mandate of the ministry which is to deliver affordable and sustainable energy in the country. He said key stakeholders within and outside the ministry are members of the taskforce which meet on daily basis to find solution to the growing need of electricity throughout the country.
He said despite challenges, the ministry and the country are facing at the moment, there has been an overwhelming show of interest in the investment in the energy sector. He said after the successful launch of Power Sierra Leone in the UK, the energy sector soon proved to be investor’s friendly by the numbers of interest shown.
Ambassador Macauley said the rehabilitation of transmission lines and the electrification of areas like Mountain villages, the rolling out of pre-paid meters in Lungi, Freetown, Bo, Kenema, Lunsar, Makeni, the installation of almost 200 Solar Street Lights at the Ebola Treatment centres in Lakka, Kerry Town, Port Loko and Hastings, among others are some of the key development strides he had made since he took over.
