Energy Minister Ends Tour of Facilities

The new Minister of Energy and team has completed a month long inspection and assessment of key electricity facilities across the country.
Moving along with his deputies, Major Ismael Sengu Koroma and Alhaji Hassan Barrie, the Minister of Energy, Ambassador Henry Macauley who described his team as “game changers” in electricity supply said the inspection was to assess and identify areas of urgent intervention for improved service delivery. He furthered that the major challenge now is the replacement of old and won out network system which has led to considerable loss of electricity along the distribution lines. The Minister however assured of constant flow of electricity while frantic efforts were being made to improve on the deplorable distribution lines.
The inspection and assessment exercise started at the Kingtom Power Station, Black Hall Road station and Falcon Bridge Station in Freetown. The team also visited the Charlotte and Bankasoka Mini hydro stations, Lungi Power station, the Barefoot solar College at Konta Line, Lunsar power station, Makeni power station, Bo/Kenema Power Services (BKPS) and the Bumbuna Hydro dam.
The new set of Ministers and the Permanent Secretary recently commissioned the long awaited Bumbuna Township electrification project in August and also commissioned the high brid solar lights and water supply at the Number Two River Village in Freetown.
In the interval of the inspection exercise in mid August, the Ministry connected and supplied free and uninterrupted electricity services at the newly established Ebola Holding Center at Lakka and the Ebola treatment Center at Kerry Town.
On the current unbundling process of NPA into two separate companies for better service delivery, Minister Macauley stated that the public will be well educated about it in the shortest possible time. The Energy Minister concluded after the inspection exercise that by the time his new team complete 100 days in office, the team should be able to say something to the public.
