President Julius Maada Bio has received international backing immediately after he declared rape and sexual violence as a National Emergency in Sierra Leone.
Equality Now Programme Officer-End Sexual Violence, Naitore Nyamu has said that the various measures highlighted by the President, if implemented, will go a long way in preventing and protecting women and girls against sexual violence in the country.
“We applaud the announcement declaring rape and sexual violence as a national disaster…The statement by the President has validated the work that various CSOs have been doing in a bid to end the prevalence of sexual violence in Sierra Leone”. Naitore Nyamu noted.
She used the opportunity to call on all actors to adopt a multi-sectoral approach to ensure a coordinated approach in addressing sexual and gender based violence.

The group provides an international framework for spreading awareness about issues and providing support to local grassroots groups working to address issues of concern.
