Finance Minister Speaks Out

By Alhaji Saidu Kamara…………..
The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Kaifala Marah has said that his team at the Finance Ministry is committed to improve on the socio-economic development of the country in the midst of different challenges.
He gave this assurance at his George Street office in Freetown recently to clarify rumours doing the rounds that he is more interested in becoming the APC 2018 flagbearer than serving the nation as Finance Minister. He told the Global Times that he has a lot to offer to the people of Sierra Leone as Finance Minister.
Dr. Marah said that he has a lot to do to address the needs of the people especially those people residing in deprived communities. ‘We have to provide roads, electricity supply, essential drugs in the hospitals and meet other pressing needs of our people”, he said.
Dr. Marah noted that for the first time since the reign of former President J.S. Momoh to date, he is the first Finance Minister to have read the budget speech on four consecutive occasions. “This indicates how much trust the President and the nation bestowed in me”, he said. He assured that he will never betray that confidence.
He maintained that the strategic planning is to manage the economy, which he said was his main task. “I was given a job to do by the President and I will execute that job to the best of my ability”, Dr. Marah said.
