The Director of Forestry in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security Mr. William Bangura yesterday told the Global Times that government has collected over Twelve billion Leones (Le 12B) from the export timber in just three months.
These exported logs were the old ones which have been in Queen Elizabeth II Quay for over two years.
The Chief of Staff at State House, Saidu Conton Sesay revealed that government lifted the ban on timber export for only three months which expired on the 31 March this year to allow the processed logs to be exported by only three companies led by Madam Fatmeh Barrie, Mr. Patrick Koroma and Mr. Patrick Gbanie.
The Director of Forestry said since the government lifted the ban on timber export, they have arrested trucks loads of logs at Mile 38 checkpoint along the Freetown-Masiaka highway.
He said with the help of the Police they will continue to control illegal logging in the country
