In The Fight Against Corruption… ACC Boss Extols Media

The Chairman of the ACC (Anti Corruption Commission), Joseph Kamara has extolled the virtues of the media in the fight against corruption.
Speaking in Freetown yesterday at a one day workshop with the Guild of Editors at the Hill Valley Hotel on the theme; “Strengthening Partnership with the media in the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone”, the ACC boss described the relationship betwwen the commisssion and the media as congenial. He said although the commission and his person have gone through turbulent times in the past, they nonethless appreciate the invaluable role of the media in the fight against corruption in the country.
Mr Kamara said sixty percent of open sources of corrupt cases are from the media, particularly newspapers and called on journalists not to relent in their expose of corrupt people and practices in society.
While lamenting on the negatives of corrupt practices which he said affect every individual in Sierra Leone, the ACC boss admonished all including the media to continue to do those things that would promote development and discourage graft.
He called on journalists to use the pen not to kill but to develop knowledge and raise awareness on societal ills.
Earlier the Chairman of IMC (Independent Media Commission), Ambassador Alieu Kanu called on the media not to relent in their pursuit of corrupt people in society most of whom he noted are very wealthy.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the ACC Deputy Commissioner Shollay Davies while a representative of the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists SLAJ made a statement.
