Speaking at a public forum in Freetown yesterday, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (former Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Sustainable Energy For All and former Director General of UNIDO) said that, he would have responded adequately to allegations that, he had been misrepresenting His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to several African leaders if such a claim had been made by the President himself. “Since the claim was made by a Junior Minister or a junior staff in the Government, I won’t waste my time to respond to him”, Dr. Yumkella said.
In his response to Dr. Yumkella’s public outbursts, the Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Bangura said that, he won’t respond to Dr. Yumkella’s personal attacks against him because the man “is politically immature”.
Mr. Bangura renewed his call for Dr. Yumkella to respond to his claim that he (Dr. Yumkella) was misrepresenting the President whenever he travels out of this country. “Let him not divert public attention from such a serious matter…He has to respond to the claim or just shut up…He should refute it if he believes that it is not true…I made the claim in my capacity as the Government Spokesman…So it is a very serious issue…And he should not try to down play it…Let him respond to it or just zip up”, Mr. Bangura said.
The Information and Communications Minister noted that, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella is politically immature because he just registered to vote in this country for the first time in his life. “He is not even properly registered yet as a voter because he has not received his Biometric Voter Identification Card… Kandeh is neither a leader of a political party nor a flag bearer of any political party…He is just jumping into the race now, without any clear direction…He is half-in and half-out of the SLPP… He is a very indecisive man…He is neither here nor there,” Mr. Bangura charged.
According to the Information Minister, he has been a registered voter in this country for the past eleven years. “I have been Chairman/Leader of a registered political party…Kandeh has no such political pedigree…He is what I would refer to as a premature politician…Until he develops a thick skin like Brig. (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio, I would not respond to his personal attacks on me”, Mr. Bangura said.
The Information Minister asked Dr. Kandeh Yumkella to declare which party he actually belongs to. “He is not a decisive politician…He is swinging like a pendulum”, Mr. Bangura said.
