Francis Misheck Minah was one of the most prominent South/Easterners that wined and dined with the predominantly North/Western APC Party. He served as Vice President under both Siaka Probyn Stevens and Joseph Saidu Momoh. The late Francis Minah held several important positions in the APC led government.
After the abortive coup of Gabriel Kaikai in 1987, Mr. Minah was arrested and charged with Treason. At the time of the G.M.T. Kaikai coup, Mr. Minah was serving as Vice President and Attorney General and Minister of Justice.
He was succeeded by Dr. Abdulai Conteh, who led the prosecution against him. Mr. Minah was found guilty of Treason and was executed by the APC of Joseph Saidu Momoh.
In 2007, Charles Margai joined the APC in the run-off election against his father (Albert Margai’s party) the SLPP. The APC won the election and Ernest Bai Koroma became President.
Charles Margai fell out with the APC before the November 2012 elections.
During a land dispute with the First Lady, Charles Margai was arrested and detained at the CID Headquarters in Freetown. He was later released without charge.
Is The APC About To Dump Musa Tarawally?
Musa Tarawally abandoned the SLPP in 2007 and joined the APC because he had fate in the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma. He is one of the most prominent South/Easterners in the APC. He hails from Moyamba district. He is a Madingo/Mende.
After the 2007 elections, Musa Tarawally was appointed Resident Minister South. He held that position until he was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs in 2010, a position he held until 2012 when he was appointed Minister of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment.
In the run-up to the 2012 elections, Musa Tarawally was appointed as National Coordinator of President Koroma’s reelection campaign in the South/Eastern Region. By virtue of that position, Musa Tarawally was able to recruit some young South/Easterner Politicians to join the APC in the SLPP heartland of Bo, Kenema, Kailahun, Pujehun, Moyamba and Bonthe districts. That move, by Musa Tarawally, increased the APC’s presence in the South/Eastern Region. The outcome of the 2012 elections is a clear indication of that.
Musa Tarawally’s support for and loyalty to President Koroma is, without doubt, unwavering. He is seen as one of the most (if not the most genuine) loyal Politician to President Ernest Bai Koroma. The presence of Musa Tarawally in the APC has attracted a lot of South/Easterners to the Party.
Even though he is an influential member of the APC, Musa Tarawally has never abandoned his true South/Eastern identity. He continues to hobnob with South/Eastern Politicians in all the political parties especially in the SLPP.
As Minister of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment, Musa Tarawally has been equitable in the discharge of his Ministerial responsibility. He does not discriminate against people just because they do not belong to his APC Party.
Very recently, Musa Tarawally stood up for his South/Eastern brothers when he realised that they were being unfairly treated in his Ministry.
The Director of Surveys and Lands, Dr. William Farma is to proceed on terminal leave at the end of this month. He has been key to the changes that are currently underway in the Ministry of Lands, Country Planning and the Environment.
Musa Tarawally did not (and still does not) want to lose his principal professional adviser in the Ministry. He advised that either Dr. Farma’s tenure is extended or his deputy, Fayia Alpha is promoted to the post of Director of Surveys and Lands. Both requests have been rejected by President Koroma on the advice of the Secretary to the President, E.B. Osho-Coker.
Mr. Osho-Coker allegedly presented a distorted account of events at the Lands Ministry to the President. It is on account of such perverted information that the President approved the appointment of the disgraced former Acting Director of Surveys and Lands, Mr. Christian Pratt. Even though Musa Tarawally did not get his way through, he has shown that he is committed to his brothers in the South/East.
It has to be pointed out, also that, Musa Tarawally is the only South/Easterner in the APC that can resist the marginalisation of South/Easterners in the APC. The question still lingers: Is the APC about to dump Musa Tarawally like they did to Francis Minah and Charles Margai?
Is the APC just using South/Eastern Politicians for their selfish political interest?
To be fair to him, President Ernest Bai Koroma has brought a lot of South/Easterners closer to the APC. Some of them now hold positions in Cabinet. People like J.B. Dauda (Kenema), Moijueh Kaikai (Pujehun), Maya Kaikai (Kailahun), Charles Rogers (Pujehun), Alhaji Randolph Foday Bayoh (Bo), Sam Maligie Jr. now occupy important positions in the APC government. All but one of them used to be strong supporters and members of the main opposition SLPP. What will happen to them if President Koroma leaves the political stage in 2018?
Again, what will happen to the APC in 2018 if their brave Battlefield Commander in the South/East, Musa Tarawally is dumped?
Ponder my thoughts!
