LAC Murder Trial… 12 Jurors Sworn In

Twelve jurors were yesterday sworn in at the High Court of Sierra Leone to preside over the alleged murder trial involving three accused persons including Baimba Moi Foray alias LA Chocolate, Foday Amara Kamara and Avril Oreh Renner.
The three accused were after a preliminary investigation at the Magistrate Court arraigned at the High Court before Justice Alusine Sesay on two counts indictment of conspiracy to commit a murder and murder contrary to law.
The accused who pleaded not guilty to all counts according to the particulars of offence, on diverse dates between the 22rd and 25th May 2015 in Freetown murdered Sydney Buckle alias D J .Clef.
Admonishing the jurors, Justice Sesay encouraged them to prepare for a speedy trial by way of making themselves available at every adjourned date.
He also encouraged them to attach seriousness to the matter as it is they who have to determine and deliver the final verdict at the conclusion of the matter.
Justice Sesay went on to caution the jurors not to discuss the matter in the public domain but to pay attention to the evidences before the court.
Justice Alusine Sesay also cautioned musicians not to prejudice the matter through the frequent singing of songs with special mention of the matter. He then strongly warned musician not to produce any song in relation to the matter as the accused persons are still presumed to be innocent.
Defense Counsel, IP Mammie made an application for bail pursuant to Section 79 sub-section 1 of the Criminal Procedure Act.
In his reply, the Acting Director of Public Prosecution, Lawyer Sulaiman Bah objected to bail on the grounds that the offence is a serious one and at the same time has public interest flavor.
Bail was refused and the accused were remanded.
The matter was adjourned to the 17th November, 2015.
