The former military Head of State, Rtd. Brig. Julius Maada Bio met with President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House yesterday, and, assured him of his support and willingness to join the Government in the fight against the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.
Brig. Bio noted that the Ebola outbreak in the country was a national concern that requires a concerted national effort to tackle. He said that the meeting between the President and himself at State House yesterday was “very fruitful”.
Brig. Bio said he decided to return to the country purposefully to help in the sensitization campaign. “Ebola is real… Ebola is a killer disease”, Brig. Bio said.
The former military strongman observed that President Koroma was genuinely concerned about the scale of the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country. He called on Sierra Leoneans and the international community to support the government’s initiative in the fight against the deadly contagion.
The former military Head of State said he was impressed with the frankness of the President, during the meeting at State House and, said he felt sorry for him because of the special circumstances in the country at the moment.
Brig. Bio told the Global Times yesterday that the loss of valuable lives to the deadly Ebola virus was regrettable. He thanked health workers for helping to save lives under very challenging circumstances.
Brig. Bio said he was working on a sensitisation strategy that he would discuss with the government “in due course”.
Brig. Bio returned to Sierra Leone on Saturday from the United Kingdom.
