43-year-old Thomas Dakiyai, a Motor Mechanic was on Tuesday 28th January 2014 arraigned before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Court No. 2 on one count charge of sexually touching a child contrary to Section 20 (1a) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused was on 31 December 2013 at Leicester Road in Freetown sexually touched an eight year old Class IV pupil of the Christ Church Primary School.
The statement of the child states that she was living with her elder sister Sento, who identified the accused Thomas Dakiyai as her neighbour residing at the said address in Freetown.
The child recalled on the said date when the accused called her into his room at night, when she entered the room the child said the accused gave her a juice drink. After drinking the juice, the girl said she became drunk and the accused had cause to put his fingers into her private part and later on heard the voice of her sister from afar and as she was about to shout the accused held her mouth and threatened to beat her if she shouted.
As her sister was coming closer to the accused person’s room in search of the girl child, the accused quickly rushed out and told the sister that the girl was not in his room.
The girl went on to say that she later on went outside the room and explained her ordeal to her elder sister. The sister, Sento Kargbo based on the report of the child rushed with her to the New England Police Station where she was issued with a medical report.
Madam Sento Kargbo was referred by the Police to Cottage Rainbow Clinic for examination and treatment. The accused was refused bail and has since been remanded at the Pademba Road Maximum Prison Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to Saturday 1st February 2014.
