The Minister of State II in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Patrick Conteh is to be appointed Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, according to a senior Presidential Aide at State House.
If his appointment goes through, he would be succeeding Dr. Kaifala Marah, who resigned almost two months ago, to pursue his political ambition.
In the wake of the US$4.8 million scandal that rocked the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, Dr. Patrick Conteh and his immediate boss, Chrispin Deigh were sacked and charged to court.
The fraud charges against them were later dropped for lack of sufficient evidence and they were both acquitted and discharged by the High Court.
It was alleged at the time that, the two men connived with other staff members of the bank to award a US$4.8m unsecured loan to a controversial businessman, Kabba Kalu. They were all detained at the CID Headquarters for several before they were charged to court.
The current Deputy Bank Governor, Dr. Ibrahim Lahai Stevens will retain his post when a new Bank Governor is appointed next week, according to senior State House sources.
