Several truck loads of office equipment including computers, lap tops and stationery, chairs, table and many other items were yesterday transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at Charlotte Street to the new ultra modern building situated at Tower Hill adjacent to the Parliament Building in Freetown.
According to officials of the Ministry, the Charlotte Street office was becoming too small for the staff to effectively work in and as a result in 2009, the Ministry led by former Minister Haja Zainab Bangura saw it expedient to build a new modern office that could hold all the staff together. The officials said Mrs. Bangura started the programme with a very strong commitment noting that in a very short period a lot of progress was made. But lamented that when the former Minister resigned for an UN job, her successor Joseph Bandabla Dauda performed dismally and according to them it was one of the reasons the Minister was removed from that Ministry and transferred to Internal Affairs Ministry.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry officials further stressed that the coming of the current Minister, Samura Kamara was a blessing in disguise. “Minister Samura Kamara enhanced the swift completion of the new highly technological office through dedication and strong commitment,” the officials explained.
The new office our sources said has a big conference hall, IT office, huge reception, car park, dozens of spacious room among other facilities.
