Police Testifies In Murder Trial

Detective Police Constable (DPC) 9823 Brima Turay attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Central Police Division yesterday appeared before Magistrate Santigie Banugura to testify in a Preliminary Investigation murder matter involving a twenty-two-year old disable accused, Hassan Deen Bangura aka (LA).

Led in evidence by Police prosecutor (ASP) Theresa M. Bangura, the formal witness (DPC) 9823 Turay B. said he knows and recognizes the accused person and complainant Mr. Wilfred Sawyer.

The witness said he recalled on the 2nd April 2018, when the complainant arrived at the station and reported a case of murder involving twenty-six-year old Alfred Gibson.

At the station, the complainant handed over the accused and a kitchen knife as exhibit which was allegedly used to stab Alfred Gibson now deceased in the left chest.

The witness continued that on that same day, he together with the Scene of Crime Officer (DPC) 13260 Koroma left the station for Connaught Hospital Mortuary.

On arrival at the mortuary, the complainant identified the remains of Alfred Gibson and on observation the witness said he saw a wound in the left chest of the deceased and blood all over his body.

On the same daty, he together with DPC 16681 Kamara J. obtained voluntary caution statement from the accused person, and on the 3rd April 2018 a postmortem request was sent to the Government Pathologist.

On the 5th April 2018, an autopsy was conducted on the remains of Alfred Gibson by Dr. Owizz Koroma witnessed by family members. At the end of the autopsy the death certificate was handed over to family members and a copy was issued to the Police investigators.

The witness added that on the 17th April 2018 he wrote a progress report to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice and on the 4th May 2018 he together with Sergeant 7331 Sesay M. charged the accused person with the offence of murder contrary to law.

The particulars of offence state that the accused, Hassan Deen Bangura on 2nd April, 2018 at Ascension Town Road in Freetown being armed with knife allegedly murdered Alfred Gibson.

The accused who pleaded not guilty is represented by Lawyer M. Sesay, and has been remanded at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center.

The matter was adjourned to the 21st May 2018 for further hearing.
