President Koroma Hails RSLAF

President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces and Minister of Defence, last Friday 30th January 2015 praised Officers and Men of the Sierra Leone Battalion (LEOBAT 1) for the exemplary performance they displayed during their 20 months peace keeping operations in war torn Somalia.
The President was speaking at a well attended official welcoming ceremony of the peacekeeping troops that returned from the Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISON) a week ago at the Peace Mission Training Centre (PMTC) Hastings in the outskirts of Freetown.
He commended the peacekeepers for exhibiting gallantry and professionalism during their stay in the Eastern African country of Somalia. He said they have raised the flag of Sierra Leone high in Somalia. The Force Commander assured them of his Government’s commitment to their welfare.
The Commanding Officer of LEOBAT 1 newly promoted Colonel Abu Bakarr Conteh thanked President Koroma for the confidence and trust he haS bestowed in him to lead a peacekeeping contingent of 850 soldiers in Somalia. He told the President that only one soldier had been killed in action while five had died of natural causes. Col. Abu Conteh noted that six others were wounded in action.
The Commander told the President that 2 soldiers had been dismissed on disciplinary grounds. He handed back the country’s national colours to President Ernest Bai Koroma.
The ceremony was witnessed by senior Army Officers of the RSLAF including the CDS, Major General S.O Williams, members of the diplomatic and consular corps and Government functionaries.
