Press Statement By The 26 Petitioners Of The SLPP Members Of Parliament On The Current Impasse Of Minority Leadership In Parliament Tuesday 28th January 2014

Distinguished representatives of various press houses present here, ladies and gentlemen; it is with the greatest concern inspired by disappointment that we the concerned Members of Parliament of the Sierra Leone People’s Party have decided to hold this press conference to present to the public the current unfortunate impasse regarding the minority leadership of the SLPP in Parliament.

As you are aware, the majority of the Members of the Parliament of the SLPP, (26 out 42 members) petitioned the minority leadership before the closure of the first session of the present parliament. The petition was examined and deliberated by the SLPP party and a decision reached withdrawing the leadership of Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai and a replacement made in the person of Hon. Emma Kowa.

Dear members of the Fourth Estate, it is with grave disappointment that we inform the people of this country through you that Hon. Bernadette Lahai still poses as the Minority Leader thereby inhibiting the smooth functioning of the opposition in Parliament. We hereby inform you that as elected Members of Parliament representing the SLPP, we stand by the party’s decision and we will continue to do so until it is established in parliament.
