The Commander-In-Chief of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma said in Freetown recently during the Seventh Annual Armed forces Day held at the Hockey Pitch, Wilberforce Barracks that the RSLAF LEOBATI II will be sent on peacekeeping mission to Sudan pending the outcome of ongoing negotiations with the UN.
It would be recalled that the RSLAF through LEOBATT I under the command of Col. Abu Conteh played a pivotal role during their peacekeeping mission in Sudan.
The RSLAF put on brilliant performance in their areas of deployment in Sudan to the admiration of AMISON but due to the Ebola outbreak, the operations of LEOBATT II were put on hold. Now that the Ebola is a thing of the past, the RSLAF is preparing to send LEOBATT II.
President Koroma commended the Military for their tremendous role in the Ebola fight as well as the UN and AU missions they have participated in and said he was confident that they will do more because his government is supporting them in all areas.
“Currently we are supporting the Military in constructing new barracks and expanding existing ones…As we celebrate this day, we need as citizens to pause and reflect on the sacrifice of the Officer’s, Men and Women of the RSLAF both at home and abroad”, the President said.
