Save The Children Under Fire

By Abdul K Turay…………
“I assure you I will hold their feet to the fire on this”, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ebola Response Center (NERC), Rtd Major Alfred Paolo Conteh told Journalists at this week’s Ebola update press conference on the Kerry Town Treatment Center which has come under the spotlight of local and international criticism.
He told journalists that he had personally spoken to Save The Children to ensure that they are getting a grip of the situation and that they will pull out all the stops to turn the situation around without delay.
This statement came at the most crucial time when Save The Children had previously come under serious criticism by the CEO on the situation at the Kerry Town Treatment Centre. Kerry Town, he said has had its fair share of criticism but there he said “You have a superb 80 bed facility growing in capacity every day”.
“Many lessons have been learnt here, which can be seen as positive as it means we are even more aware of the complexities involved in getting the facility fully occupied as soon as possible by those who most need it”, he revealed.
He thanked the British Medical Team for their help and vital work. He also informed journalists that the number of those infected by Ebola has increased over the past few weeks and added that “sadly this number continues to rise”. He said in as much as the numbers of infected cases are increasing, the numbers of holding and treatment beds have increased dramatically.
“Yes, there is much to do…yes we still have to break the transmission rates”, he admitted. He concluded that “we can still collectively defeat Ebola”.
