The SLPP Member of Parliament for Constituency 91 in Pujehun district, Honourable Sidi Mohamed Tunis has told a gathering of party supporters at China House that unity within the SLPP was the best option.
Speaking to members of the West and Central districts of the Party on Tuesday, Hon Tunis said he was consulting with members on party unity and on his intention to run for the party’s flag bearership. He told his audience that he will consult with SLPP members across the country while also preaching party unity. The Pujehun MP said it was useless for him to declare for the flag bearership of a party that is fragmented.
While commenting on the ugly situation in Parliament, Hon Tunis said, the only way out of the current impasse was through dialogue, adding that both sides need to come together as one unit for effective representation of their constituents.
The SLPP Whip then dispelled rumours that he was being sponsored by President Ernest Bai Koroma to run for the SLPP Presidential ticket. He said although he is a friend of the President, the two of them have not spoken in private for several months.
He reminded his audience that he went through similar ordeal when he declared his intention to run for the SLPP Parliamentary ticket in the 2012 election.
“President Koroma has nothing to do with my ambition. I am my own man”, Hon. Sidi Tunis concluded.
