Slone Grabs Gateway Contract

Slone Grabs Gateway Contract

Slone Telecom have been awarded the contract to monitor Sierra Leone’s International Gateway System. The Irish based company (with a subsidiary in Sierra Leone) was appointed by the country’s telecom regulators, NATCOM to serve as its appointed agent, for monitoring the International Gateway System.
In a letter dated 11th August 2015, NATCOM’s Acting Director General, Senesie Kallon informed telecom operators wishing to run an International Gateway “To obtain a license from the Commission for that purpose”.
Mr. Kallon called on telecom operators “To cooperate fully with Slone Telecom in the implementation of the aforesaid monitoring system”.
The International Gateway was liberalized in March this year, after pressure was put on the Government of Sierra Leone by the World Bank.
The World Bank has still not reacted to the Government of Sierra Leone’s decision to award the monitoring of the International Gateway System to an Irish registered company.
A high-level delegation from Slone Telecom arrived in Freetown this week and is reported to have met with senior Government officials and some senior members of NATCOM.
David Navo of Slone Telecom (Sierra Leone) was unavailable for comment last night.
Investigations continue.
