The National Chairman and Leader of the largest opposition party in Sierra Leone (the Sierra Leone People’s Party SLPP) has been speaking to Global Times on the road map to peace and harmony within the troubling opposition.
Speaking in an exclusive interview over the weekend, Chief Bai Shebora Somano Kapen said that as Chairman it is his duty to guide the party towards peace, unity and harmony, factors he said if harnessed will produce victory for the opposition party in the 2018 elections.
He said following the Appeal Court ruling he has met with solicitors from both sides to give what he called ‘meaning’ to the ruling which the three Appeal Court Judges delivered last week.
The SLPP Chairman said this was necessary since legal documents are subject to different interpretations. Last week’s meeting with the lawyers was to reach a common understanding as to the way forward.
He said on Wednesday this week, he intends to meet with the four Regional Chairmen so that they could speak frankly to issues that are relevant to the judgment and come out with a single position.
A stakeholders meeting is also planned for Thursday 18th June, Chief Kapen said. In that meeting he said all key stakeholders are expected to engage in an open and frank discussion to prepare a road map to peace.
Chief Kapen said the road map to peace will then be forwarded to the National Officers who will review and make recommendations to the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting slated for June 24.
