Attempt by the National Chairman and Leader of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Chief Somano Kapen to delay the ongoing District Executive elections across the country ended in big failure.
Chief Kapen who had single handedly arrogated to himself the right to overturn decisions of the party’s second highest administrative organ, the National Executive Council (NEC) to put on hold the elections of the District Executives was put to sha…me when thousands of enthusiastic party members turned out at various designated centres across the country to elect their district leaders over the week end.
The SLPP Chairman had on December 1st circulated an unauthorized press release calling on party members to put on hold the District Executive elections without the expressed approval of NEC which had sanctioned the time table for the conduct of all executive elections.
Global Times sources say Chief Kapen resorted to writing the Press Release after failing to convince the PPRC to have the elections postponed.
Global Times understands the former Mambolo Chieftain was told at the PPRC that there were no grounds for the postponement of the elections. He ran to the Police after the disappointment there and the Police cleverly asked him to secure the order to stop the elections from the PPRC.
Chief Kapen could not return to the PPRC after that disappointment hence resorted to writing a press release calling for the postponement of the said elections, an order which was flatly ignored.
Meanwhile, the opposition party will conduct the Regional Executive election which will pave the way for the National Delegates Conference early next year.
