Turkey Donates US$ 1M Medical Equipment

The Turkish Government, through its Honorary Consul in Sierra Leone, Mr. Hisham Mackie has donated a huge consignment of medical equipment and pharmaceutical products to the Government of Sierra Leone.
Making the symbolic presentation at the Lungi International Airport on Saturday January 31, 2015 Mr. Mackie said that the donation was in support of the Government of Sierra Leone’s effort to fight and end the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.
Mr. Mackie disclosed that the assorted medical equipment and pharmaceutical products are valued at a staggering US$1M (One Million United States Dollars).
The Turkish Honorary Consul underscored the long standing diplomatic relationship between the Sierra Leone Government and the Turkish Government and assured that Turkey was in for a long haul in its diplomatic relationship with Sierra Leone. Mr. Mackie praised President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for his show of strong leadership in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mrs. Ebun Strasser-King thanked, on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, the Government of the Republic of Turkey for the donation. Mrs. Strasser-King stressed that, Sierra Leone was keen to strengthen the already cordial diplomatic relationship with the Republic of Turkey.
The Deputy Foreign Minister recalled the several donations made by the Turkish Government towards the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease. She disclosed that, before now, Turkey had donated scholarships, a cash of US$100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Dollars), and a brand new state –of –the earth Ambulance to the Government and people of Sierra Leone to help in the fight against the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NERC (National Ebola Response Centre), Maj. (Rtd). Alfred Palo Conteh thanked the Turkish Government for “this timely donation”. He described the Turkish Government as “a true friend of Sierra Leone”.
The brief but very impressive symbolic presentation of the plane load of Medical Equipment and Pharmaceutical Products was witnessed by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Sarian Kamara, the Donor Aid Coordinator at the National Ebola Response Centre, Dr. Shekou Sesay and some top officials from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
The official handing over of the medical equipment and pharmaceutical products will take place in Freetown today, according to a senior official at NERC.
