VP Juldeh Jalloh Assures Freetown Mayor

The Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Hon. Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has assured the new Mayor of the Freetown City Council, Her Worship Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr that the government under the dynamic leadership of His Excellency President Brig (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio will fully support her in her duty.

VP Dr. Juldeh Jalloh gave the assurance on Friday 11th May, 2018 at his office during the inauguration and oath taking by the new Mayor of Freetown.

The Vice President congratulated Mayor Aki-Sawyer and also wishes her well on behalf of President Bio. He pleaded with the Mayor of the Freetown municipality to be vigilant in the area of revenue collection.

VP Dr. Juldeh Jalloh noted that such issues must be taken with seriousness. He further informed the Mayor that government was very concerned about keeping the city clean and that he expects Freetown City Council to take the lead role to make it a reality.

The Vice President expressed concern over what he referred to as gross indiscipline in the municipality that needs to be looked at urgently.

He called on the new Mayor to identify issues that will need government support. “You are a young dynamic woman and I look forward to working with you”, he promised.

Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh is the Chairman of the Inter Ministerial Council for Local Government.

In her vote of thanks, the new Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr thanked God and all those who supported her to be the Mayor of Freetown City Council. She said transforming Freetown has always been her vision.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr assured the gathering that she will do all she can to live up the expectations of the people of Freetown. She said, as she now starts work, she will be addressing indiscipline in Freetown, traffic management, education, housing, job creation and education. “In the next four years, I want to see where we can reflect and be proud of Freetown…With God all things are possible”, she stressed.
