All along, we had known that, some people in the ruling APC (All Peoples Congress Party) were determined to discredit the Honourable Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Leone, Alhaji Chief Samuel Sam Sumana. What surprises us the most was the way in which it was done. The APC Party showed no respect for the office (not the holder) of Vice President.
All along, the APC leadership had known that, their Vice Presidential candidate in both 2007 and 2012 had no post graduate degree. Why didn’t they correct that anomaly? All they did was to present their Vice Presidential candidate as a person of exalted virtue. Sierra Leonean voters were conned by the leadership of the APC into voting for a Party that had paraded a Vice Presidential candidate that had a doubtful academic credential, according to the Party itself.
In any case, Chief Sam Sumana did not need to have a post graduate degree to become a Vice Presidential candidate in both the 2007 and 2012 elections? Did Chief Sam Sumana need to be a Muslim or an Alhaji to become a Vice Presidential candidate in both the 2007 and 2012 elections?
The lesson to be learnt from the disgraceful expulsion of Chief Sam Sumana from the APC Party is that, South/Easterners have no future in the Party. It was this same APC Party that brutally murdered Francis Misheck Minah (a prominent Southerner) in order to stop him from ascending to the position of President of the Republic of Sierra Leone. He was Vice President at the time he was arrested and prosecuted by the APC Government.
Today, some desperate Politicians in the APC Party, who hail from the Kono district, have ganged up against their Kono brother and kicked him out of frontline politics. But is this the end of Chief Sam Sumana’s glittering political career? Chief Sam Sumana is down, but not yet out!
The APC Party will not be the same again in the Kono district. The decision to forcefully expel Chief Sam Sumana from the ruling APC Party will come to haunt the Party in future public elections in 2016 and 2018.
This is not the way to treat a sitting Vice President. There are many ways than one to get rid of Chief Sam Sumana from the APC. His disgraceful expulsion from the Party will mark the beginning of a long-running internal wrangling within the leadership of the ruling Party.
Never write Chief Sam Sumana off. He is a master political tactician. He has survived many political battles. Let us see how he comes out of this latest political soap opera.
Chief Sam Sumana: Down, but not Out!
