A leaked internal memo from Sierratel shows that, the outgoing Board of Directors headed by Mrs. Alice Onomake met on Friday 11th May, 2018 at the Company’s Headquarters and extended the management contract of four top Managers of the company.
The top four officials are Edward Sesay (Managing Director), Thomas King (Chief Finance Officer), Probyn C.A. Browne (Chief Commercial Officer) and Ishmael O. Lisk (Chief Technical Officer). Their contract period has been extended by two years and the Board has recommended them to the APC appointed Chairman of NCP (National Commission for Privatization) for his concurrence.
The question that easily comes to mind is: Why did the outgoing Board not leave such a decision to be taken by an incoming Board? It is very clear that, the Board’s hasty decision is influenced by political consideration. Plain and simple!
Mr. Edward Sesay and Mrs. Alice Onomake are well-known supporters and members of the now defunct opposition APC party. In fact, Mrs. Onomake is the Managing Director of the insurance outfit, Ritcorp. Everybody knows the big man behind Ritcorp!
Mrs. Alice Onomake is the Chairperson of the Sierratel Board of Directors. She was appointed to that position, after Tom Obaleh Kargbo was removed from Sierratel as Board Chairman and sent to NATCOM in a similar capacity.
Mr. Edward Sesay was catapulted to the position of Acting Managing Director of Sierratel after the Lebanese Managing Director of Sierratel, Adel Taher relinquished his contractual position and left the country.
The Management of Sierratel needs to be investigated because of the huge sums of money paid to the top management of the company and the award of several dubious contracts.
The government of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio should move quickly and dissolve all Boards of Directors appointed by the former government. Some of these Boards are engaged in some activities that will give this government a bad name.
We call on President Bio to move swiftly and dissolve some or all of these Boards and appoint party loyalists in order to be able to implement government’s policies and programmes.
We return to the question: what is really happening at the APC infested Sierratel Board and Management?
