As a political party that believes in upholding democracy with the full participation of all their members in decision making process, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has conducted its Zonal and Constituency elections. The party will also hold its District Chairmanship and other Executive positions across the country on Saturday 17th April, 2021.
In view of the above, the SLPP grassroots supporters in Kono district have cautioned delegates in that part of the country to vote in Mr. Saffa Leslie Moiwa as the party new District Chairman.
According to them, it is only this man that can deliver Kono district to the SLPP come 2023. These statements and concerns were raised at Mr. Moiwa’s official declaration for the position of SLPP Kono District Chairman. The event took place at the party office in Koidu City.
“We are calling on our party delegates in this part of the country not to vote on sentiment but vote for people with integrity…Records are there to show that Mr. Moiwa never seats back but gives all his best in Kono particularly when our beloved party was in opposition for 11 years…We want you to do a great job by electing people like Mr. Moiwa that has suffered so much for the SLPP”, the grassroots supporters noted.
Chairman for the declaration ceremony, Mr. Sahr Mormakoe Yambasu said the SLPP needs a very strong and vibrant leadership in Kono, adding that Mr. Moiwa is the suitable candidate to be elected Chairman.
Mr. Yambasu noted that it is very visible that their Chainman to be has a good human relationship with the SLPP grassroots supporters and by extension with the people of Kono.
In his statement, the current SLPP Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Kono district, Mr. Sahr Michael Komba-Fonjah informed the gathering that Mr. Moiwa stood behind the party when it was in opposition for 11 years, noting that he gave all his best in making President Bio electable in Kono. “Mr. Moiwa is a foot soldier for the party…He is not a new man in the party and he is not on this battle just for political gain…He has been in this party even during the dark days of the SLPP”, said the SLPP Kono PRO.
In his declaration statement for the Chairmanship position, Mr. Saffa Leslie Moiwa said, just like President Julius Maada Bio, his support base is with the SLPP grassroots in Kono. He highlighted several development programmes he has undertaken in the district ranging from education, infrastructure, roads etc.
“If I become the next Kono District Chairman, I will link the people of Kono and those that have been appointed by the President to come to Kono and discuss with the people as to what needs to be done to develop the district”, he promised.
