The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Austin Demby has appealed to striking Junior Doctors to return to work as his Ministry tries to address all aggrieved parties.
The Junior Doctors embarked on an industrial action on Wednesday after one of their female colleagues was allegedly physically assaulted at the Connaught Hospital in Freetown by some senior officials in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
The executive of the Junior Doctors Association has called on the senior officials in the Health Ministry who were involved in allegedly assaulting their female colleague to resign with immediate effect.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Dr. Austin Demby said that his Ministry was determined to resolve the issue so that the striking doctors will return to normal work as quickly as possible.
He assured that his Ministry was doing everything possible to ensure that the contractors for the cleaning of the main referral hospital receive all outstanding payments as a way forward.
The cleaning of all government hospitals in the country is out-sourced to private cleaning companies who provide cleaning services for an agreed amount of money.
As we went to press last night, the Junior Doctors continue to untold their services as negotiations continue.
