Information gathered by this newspaper have revealed that Mr. Musa Koroma popularly known as Kabumba, formerly of 16 Upper Mellon Street in Wellington in the eastern part of Freetown, is now on the run fearing for the safety of his life after he was declared wanted by the Sierra Leone Police on allegations that he was engaged in subversive activities, illegal possession of arms and ammunition, incitement and arson.
The reports further stated that Musa Koroma is also being pursued by irate members of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) because they claim that he has been very vocal against their party as he campaigned for the then ruling All People’s Congress (APC), during which he used all forms of threats and weapons against them.
A source who lives in the community told this Reporter that the Wellington community which is an SLPP stronghold have essentially declared Musa wanted with an ultimatum that he should be killed because of what they referred to as his unforgivable political activities against them and the SLPP led Government.
He also explained that the on 23rd. April, 2021, the Police issued a warrant of arrest for Musa Koroma on very serious charges including arson, subversion, incitement and illegal possession of arms and ammunition, crimes that carry life imprisonment.
He also revealed that during the campaign for the 2018 Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council elections, Musa was very active in organizing rallies and campaigning for APC’s Presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara and the Parliamentary candidates for the Wellington area and using very insulting and inciting language against the SLPP Presidential candidate, Retired Brigadier General Julius Maada Bio and the entire SLPP.
He further disclosed that Musa who was a leading footballer and a youth leader travelled to various parts of the country mobilizing and organizing the young people to disturb the elections in the SLPP strongholds so that the SLPP will lose and the APC will win.
He explained that Musa was also reportedly involved in inciting some young people to go on the streets and attack the SLPP, an activity that led to violent confrontations between the APC and SLPP in parts of Freetown leaving at least two people dead and scores of others wounded.
He explained that when the SLPP eventually won the 2018 elections, angry members of the SLPP attacked the home of Musa who ran away from the community.
He also stated that after some time in 2020, Musa returned to his former home in Wellington.
He stated that in the evening hours of 15 April 2021, during a football match at the Wellington Community Playing Field scores of young men descended on the field, brandishing machetes, sticks and stones and attacked Musa who miraculously disappeared from the scene and went into hiding.
When this Reporter requested for him to lead him to Musa for an interview, he stated that he did not know his whereabouts as after he was declared wanted by the Police and attacked by the SLPP people on 15 April this year, 2021, he disappeared from the community and has neither been seen nor heard from since.
He also disclosed that one night Musa’s house was set on fire in which a lady known as Miss Kadiatu Sankoh died, while the rest of Musa’s family members fled from the community.
He concluded that the SLPP supporters continue to search for him with the threat that they will kill him the day they see him.
When this Reporter contacted the Wellington Police Station on the matter, a senior Police Officer told him that they are looking for one Mr. Musa Koroma popularly known as Kabumba who is alleged to have been engaged in subversive activities and incitement against the government, illegal possession of arms and ammunition and arson.
He revealed that while they are investigating the matter they have put a reward of twenty thousand New Leones (Le 20,000.00) for anybody who will give them information that will lead to his arrest.
