The Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay has over the weekend won the Southern Regional Chairmanship of the ruling SLPP in what was deemed a one-horse-race at the partyโs regional office in Bo.
Alhaji Kanja Sesay polled 190 votes to defeat his only challenger, Sheku Mannah who polled 50 votes.
His victory was widely expected as weeks before the election, senior stakeholders in the region had all openly pledged their loyalty and support to the man many consider as their political Godfather and mentor.
He told newsmen afterwards that his victory was a victory for all those who strive for unity and progress in the SLPP.
Until now, Alhaji Kanja Sesay served as Chairman of the Bo District branch of the SLPP for eleven unbroken years. During those turbulent and difficult times in opposition, Bo district became the envy of other districts in terms of quality leadership and unity of purpose.
A senior SLPP stakeholder who spoke to the Global Times last night described the victory of Alhaji Kanja Sesay as a victory for hard work and party loyalty.
