Reliable sources at NRA (National Revenue Authority) have confirmed that one of the leading MNOs (Mobile Network Operators), Orange (SL) Limited is being investigated for tax payment irregularities.
A senior official at NRA confirmed that Orange SL is to pay the sum of Le98Billion in arrears to the tax authority for the past five years.
In a bid to put an end to the alleged clandestine business practices of Orange SL, many Sierra Leoneans have called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to probe more into the activities of Orange SL; especially the alleged one hundred billion Leones Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion that the company is allegedly concealing from the general public.
The telecoms regulatory body, NATCOM, yesterday slammed a hefty fine on Orange SL for the illegal use of the upper 6GHZ Microwave Transmission Frequency in their ring backhaul network.
This despicable act of Orange SL, according to NATCOM, has affected the operations and quality of service of different service providers.
NATCOM, having ascertained the illegal and fraudulent use of frequencies in the upper 6GHz, on 19th May 2021, ordered that Orange SL pays the sum of thirteen Billion Leones as fine to them.
