Paid-up members of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) are converging in Bo City today for their three-day Annual General Meeting (AGM) This year’s AGM has been described as “SLAJ Golden Jubilee” because it coincides with the Association’s 50th Anniversary.
The 3-day AGM will see activities like football match, bonfire and a panel discussion to be moderated by Mrs. Dr. Willette James of the Mass Communications Department at Fourah Bay College.
This is the first AGM to be hosted by SLAJ after Part V of the Public Order Act was repealed by the SLPP-led Bio administration. SLAJ is expected to honor President Julius Maada Bio “in a very special way” for repealing Part V of the Public Order Act and for the regular and prompt payment of the annual subvention to SLAJ by his government.
Reports from Bo City last night indicate that all the hotels and motels in the city have been booked by SLAJ ahead of their AGM which starts tomorrow. De Monk succeeded Kelvin Lewis as President of SLAJ two years ago.
