NGO Boosts Hospitals

In a bid to promote good and better health care system in the country, a Non-Governmental Organisation in Wales, Tamareneh Rhondda has donated drugs and medical equipment to some government hospitals in Freetown worth over one hundred Million Leones. The items were over the weekend handed over to medical authorities at Connaught, Lakka and the Emergency Hospitals.

Handing over the consignment, the Chairperson of Tamareneh Rhondda, Dr. Idriss Sesay disclosed that he and his partners have been doing such donations for over fifteen years to hospitals that are in dire need of drugs and medical equipment.

As usual, Dr. Sesay said before shipping the consignment to Sierra Leone, they consulted authorities at the various hospitals as to the most urgent items needed for patients and health workers.

According to Dr. Sesay, the consignment amongst others includes medical gloves and face masks to protect and prevent the spread of Covid-19. He urged the medical authorities to make good use of the items for them not to hit the expiry dates.

Receiving the consignment on behalf of Connaught Hospital in Freetown, Dr. Kizito Dawo expressed appreciation to Tamareneh Rhondda for the gesture. He said when received the list of the items, he immediately consulted the Chief Pharmacist of the hospital who confirmed the items to be very useful for medication and hospital care. “You will not know the value of some of these items until you need them”, Dr. Dawo stated.

Dr. Dawo encouraged Tamareneh Rhondda to continue to do more in order to avert the needless deaths of people.

In Lakka, the Senior Matron, Susan A. Charles received the items and welcomed the delegation. She assured them that the items will be used for their intended purpose.

She further assured of giving the crutches to patients that are not mobile, while the pillows and other stuffs will be distributed to those that are in desperate need of them.

Madam Charles prayed for unity to continue between the hospital and Tamareneh Rhondda as they are expecting more gifts from them.

At the Emergency Hospital, the items were received by staff on duty, and the list of donated items was prepared and signed by the medical coordinator at surgical centre, Samuele Greco.

The donated items include assorted drugss, yellow bins, oxygen link tubings, flat drain, blood glucose test strips, guedel airways, nasal cannulas, verturi barrels, corflo fine bore feeding tubes, internal feeding sets, flexitainers, culture swab transport systems, blood collection tubes, mepiseal with safetac technology, urine collection bags, link yankauer suckers, multisite dressing, portable suction machine, hydro fiber dressing with strengthening films among others
