On 7th June 2021, H.E. Hon. Sidi M. Tunis, Speaker of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, paid a courtesy call on the outgoing Ambassador of Sierra Leone in Egypt, Ambassador Morie Fofana.
Ambassador Fofana welcomed Speaker Sidi M. Tunis and congratulated him on his outstanding performance as Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.
Hon. Tunis was led on a conducted tour of the Chancery Building followed by a brief meeting with Ambassador Morie Fofana.
During the meeting both sides expressed views on how to promote and further strengthen the bilateral cooperation as well as economic and trade ties between Sierra Leone and Egypt.
In a general meeting with the staff, Ambassador Fofana expressed optimism that Hon Tunis’ visit to Cairo will help reinforce the efforts of the Mission and yield more dividends that will attract more investors to Sierra Leone; thus the new mandate of the New Direction “Development Diplomacy” for 2021.
Delivering his statement during the meeting, Hon Tunis expressed satisfaction for the considerable efforts of the Embassy in strengthening the Sierra Leone-Egypt bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
H.E. Tunis informed the meeting that he is in Cairo on an investment drive and he is planning to hold meetings with different investors and assured the Embassy of continuous government’s support.
Hon. Tunis further maintained that His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone has made Sierra Leone very attractive for investments and with the solid leadership provided by the President, it is the responsibility of the Mission to attract investors.
He underscored the strategic nature of the Sierra Leone Mission in Cairo, stating that Egypt is strategically located at the gateway between Africa and the Middle East with great influence with the West.
In this regard, the Hon. emphasized that with such influence, the relationship with the authorities in Egypt will be of great mutual benefit on both countries.
Commenting on the performance of the Embassy, Hon. Tunis expressed delight for the progress made so far by the Embassy under the leadership of Ambassador Fofana and the Head of Chancery Mr. Samuel Alie Kargo. He lauded the Embassy’s efforts in handling critical situations in Libya professionally without social media scandals. This, he maintained, is a testimony that the leadership and the staff are doing extremely well to ensure that the welfare of Sierra Leoneans in the Embassy’s areas of accreditation are taken care of and that their concerns are timely addressed.
In concluding his statement, Hon. Tunis promised to provide support to the Embassy in its pursuit of Development Diplomacy.
The First Secretary conveyed the vote of thanks and wished Hon. Tunis well in his engagement in Cairo.
