WEFA International Aid and Humanitarian Organization International Relief and Development Foundation (IDRF CANADA), International Blue Crescent Relief and Development Foundation and the International Islamic Youth League (IIYL) Global Office in Sierra Leone, donated 1600 cows worth USD 640.000, as support to 134,400 poor and needy Muslims during the 2021 Eid-Ul-Ahda in eleven African countries, including Sierra Leone, Mali, Liberia, Guinea, Ghana, The Gambia, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Central African Republic and Madagascar.
WEFA decided to slaughter 120 cows in the Mano River basin of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea with each country receiving 40 cows.
The International Islamic Youth League implemented the project in the three countries and areas in Sierra Leone including Blama, Kambia, Port Loko, Western Area Urban and Rural.
Waterloo, Tombo, Jui, Calaba Town, Brima Lane, Cassel Farm, Kissy Shell, Brook Fields, Lumley and Hamilton benefited from the proceeds in Western Urban and Rural, respectively.
The International Islamic Youth League IIYL is a humanitarian relief and development organization that is operating in 48 countries across the Globe, supporting various humanitarian and development projects.
Every year during the month of Dhul Hijah, Muslims around the world do slaughter animals including goats, sheep, cows or camels to reflect the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son for the sake of God.
It is about giving up something one holds dear in devotion to God and it is also mandatory to share the meat of the sacrificed animal.
Muslims in Sierra Leone applauded and appreciated the humanitarian gesture and pray that the move continues in the years to come.
Furthermore, in marking this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the International Islamic Youth League (IIYL), a humanitarian organization, on Saturday 24th July 2021, supported orphans at the Father of Islam Sierra Leone orphanage Home in Waterloo.
Over four hundred orphans benefited from this year’s Eid-Ul-Adha gifts which include school bags, shoes, clothes, and essential learning materials.
Distributing the gifts on behalf of the Global Chief Executive Officer, of IIYL, Ambassador, Dr. Professor Hamid Kanneh, the Personal Assistant Nagwan Koroma said that the outbreak of the Corona pandemic brought untold sufferings to Sierra Leoneans with school-going pupils, not an exception.
In response to that, the organization decided to donate learning materials to children.
Responding as to why the Father of Islam orphanage Home was chosen for this year’s gesture, Madam Koroma said that their attention was brought to the orphanage by someone who works at the Ministry of Social Welfare and after assessing the current situation; they saw the need to boost the orphans with such support.
“I am appealing to other non-governmental organizations to see the need to help these children. Government cannot do it alone and we all have a responsibility to ensure that the Free and Quality Education dream of His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio succeeds,” he said.
The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Father of Islam Orphanage Home, Alhaji Dauda Kamara, thanked the International Islamic Youth League for coming to their aid as they are currently struggling to upkeep the orphans.
“The International Islamic Youth League has demonstrated exactly what they stand for. This is not the first time the organization has been coming to our aid and we will forever remain grateful for their support,” he said.
He, therefore, called on other organizations to emulate the good work of the International Islamic Youth League.
