Appeal Court Judge, Justice Musu Damba Kamara yesterday ordered a subpeona for the Correctional Medical Doctor attached to the Maximum Pademba Road Male Correction Centre in Freetown.
The medical doctor is to appear at the High Court on main Law Court Building at Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown, before the Judge to assertain the cause and date of death of an inmate, Yousuf Bangura who was on remand at the Correctional Centre attending trial.
On the last hearing of the matter, a Correctional officer presented a death certificate of the accused person, Yousuf Bangura.
The report was referred to the Correctional Centre for the attention of the Medical Doctor, who according to State Prosecutor, Elizabeth Titty Jalloh is the fit and proper person to tender the said death certificate document.
It was in that vein that the certificate was referred back to the Correctional Centre for the medical doctor who is considered as the lawfully qualified person and appropriate individual to tender the death certificate.
As by the inconsitency on the death certificate, court records show that the accused person made appearance before the court on the date the death certificate was allegedly issued.
Yousuf Bangura who was a male youth, Mason by profesion and a Sierra Leonean by nationality was arrested on 14th February, 2019 on criminal allegation.
He was later charged to court by an investigating officer of the Sierra Leone Police on charges of conspiracy, robbery with aggravation, contrary to Law.
After a preliminary investigation conducted at the Magistrate Court, the accused was committed for trial at the High Court without bail.
In 2019, the accused, a resident of Turay Drive, Off Regent Road, Lumley in Freetown, was arraigned for trial on the same indictment counts.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused, Yousuf Bangura on Saturday, 2nd February 2019, at Gooding Drive Off Regent Road, conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit robbery with aggravation.
Lawyer Ansumana Kanu from the Legal Aid Board is defending the accused person.
