Judiciary Criminal Session Opens

Pursuant to Section 151 and 152 of the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA) Act.No.32 of 1965, the Judiciary of Sierra Leone will today, 21st September 2021 commence the September High Court Criminal Session for trial of criminal cases assigned and committed for trial.
This is the first criminal session in the Judiciary calender year and it will be officially opened by the Chief Justice, Desmond Babatunde Edwards with a parade ceremony by security officers, including police and graced by other dignitaries.
The session will proceed to a calling over of fresh and committal cases preferred for trial by the Law Officers Department through the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The call over session will be presided over by the Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, Desmond Babatunde Edwards and to be continued by a Senior Judge.
The Judiciary is calling on institutions that are yet to send in their selection to kindly cooperate and give the court bailiffs officers` names of selected persons and those summoned to serve as Jurors for this year`s criminal session to attend and on time.
Attention will be paid to the special needs and requirements of all persons summoned and empanelled, including jurors` allowances and transportation costs.
