The National Commission for Privatization is expected to generate the sum of Le180,000,000.00 (One Hundred and Eighty Billion Leones) from privatization proceeds next year.

While delivering his opening remarks at the budget presentation session, the Chairman and Commissioner, Dr. Prince Alex Harding, echoed the mandate of the Commission which is to monitor and supervise Public Enterprises to make them more viable in their service delivery and ensure they do not become a burden to government.

The Chairman informed the gathering that the Commission has worked tremendously to transform public enterprises that are slated on the First Schedule of the NCP Act of 2002.

“We are determined to transform our PEs. We have implemented strategic evaluation tracker to assess the performance of Public Enterprises. Through this system, we will be able to know those that are performing and those in need of urgent attention,” he stated.

While presenting the Commission’s budget for 2022, Mr. Gbessay Alpha, Senior Financial Analyst informed the gathering that the Commission has been able to generate One Hundred and Forty Four Billion which will rise to One Hundred and Sixty Billion by the end of 2021 from Privatization proceeds, ranging from tax payments and concession payments.

He added that the Commission is projecting One Hundred and Eighty Billion in privatization proceeds for 2022.

While dilating on the challenges of the Commission, Mr. Alpha expressed that the Commission continues to battle with the age-old problem of interference from line Ministries but the Commission is focused on transforming PEs to be productive.

While responding on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, Deputy Director of Budget Bureau, Madam Ilara Maddy applauded the Commission for revenues generated and the role they play to ensure Public Enterprises do not become a burden on the government.
