Gov’t Dolls Out Over Le 12 Billion To Leone Stars

The Ministry of Finance wishes to inform the General Public that following Sierra Leone’s
qualification for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON21) in Cameroon, Government has approved a financing package covering the following
1. Monthly Training Allowances
2. Six (6) International Friendly Matches
3. Overseas Camping; and
4. AFCON 2021 Competition in Cameroon
The initial estimates presented to Cabinet by the Minister of Sports for the above mentioned activities stands at Le 48, 945, 595, 861. of this amount, Le1, 044, 000, 000 is allocated for the payment of monthly training allowances to Players and members of the Technical Team and Le l7, 229, 429, 038 towards the cost of six (6) international friendly matches
The sum of Le 30,672,166,823 is also allocated to the main AFCON 21 event in Cameroon. This amount makes provision for Overseas Camping Group Stage Matches, Round of 16, Quarter Final, Semi-final and Grand Final.
The Ministry of Finance further wishes to inform the General Public that as of Tuesday, 9 November 2021, Government has disbursed Le 12, 028, 509,101 to the National Sports Authority for two (2) sets of five (international iri6endly matches. Three (3) took place in Morocco costing Le 6, 543, 623, 654 in October 2021 and two (2) matches scheduled to take place between 12-17″ November 2021 in Turkey costing Le 5, 484, 885, 447.
The Ministry of Finance wishes to take the opportunity to wish the National Team, Leone Stars the best of luck and to assure the nation of Governmentโ€™s fullest commitment to supporting the development of sports in the country.
